
The CANEX short film competition aims to engage the African and diasporic film community intensively and spotlight young talented filmmakers. CANEX Shorts is an exciting step towards expanding CANEX's involvement in propelling Africa's thriving film industry further.
The competition is open to Africans living on the continent and in the diaspora. To be eligible, films must meet the following criteria:
Duration: Films must be no longer than 5 minutes.
Age: The filmmaker must be between 18 and 35 years old.
Rights: The filmmaker must own all rights to the film.
Film must have been made in 2023
Language: Films can be in any language, but non-English films must be subtitled in English.

Limit: Only one film per filmmaker.
Release: Selected filmmakers will be required to sign a release/rights agreement.
Bank Account: Entrants must have a bank account capable of receiving international payments.
The selection committee will curate a final list of films, which will then be sent to the jury. The jury will select a shortlist of 9 films, which will be publicly announced via social media and a press release.
From the shortlist, three winners will be selected, one in each category:
Best Feature
Best Documentary
Best Animation
The judging criteria will be set in advance by well-known and respected members of the film community. Closing date for submissions: 31 July 2024.
